Who is Wesley Chapel Soccer Club?
Wesley Chapel Soccer Club is a community based soccer club serving Wesley Chapel and the surrounding Tampa area providing competitive soccer for players who have the desire, dedication and technical ability to play at the highest level they can attain.
Our focus is on skill development at the younger ages and winning is a secondary focus. Practice Makes Perfect; True or False? It can make perfect or it can make permanent. All players will be given ALL the tools they need to be a competent well rounded soccer player, able to play in multiple positions on the field and with a love of the game that will last a lifetime.
At our club, all players are taught from an early age that correct technique will lead to success and winning will come as a result of taking the time to play the game the ’right way’ and not compromising developmental ideals for a quick win.
By mastering the ball, players will achieve success on the field of play. At the same time, discipline, respect of your opponents and the game are expected at all times.
Parent Information and Frequently Asked Questions
Thank you for bringing your child to Wesley Chapel Soccer Club’s Flames Tryouts. I hope they have a positive experience, feel that Wesley Chapel is where they want to be and that I get the opportunity to develop their soccer skills and provide a disciplined, structured and fun learning environment to achieve their full soccer potential.
What Makes Wesley Chapel Soccer Club so Unique?
- Small club atmosphere, your child is not a number here, but a player of potential.
- Personal player and team training by a professional, trained staff each session, each week.
- FYSA and/or USSF Licensed head coaches
- 8 Full size Soccer Field Complex at Wesley Chapel District Park (four fields have lights).
- Best Value in the Greater Tampa Area. You will receive a far greater value for you and your child then you pay in fee. We will make sure of that!!
What is the philosophy of the club?
Wesley Chapel is a competitive program for players who have a passion and desire for the game of soccer along with a work ethic to reach their full potential.
At Wesley Chapel Soccer Club players will be taught the correct way to play the game and develop lasting technical and tactical skills. During this developmental process winning must be secondary to skill development, but with patience from coaches and parents the LASTING success will come.
How do the tryouts work?
Part One: Player’s individual abilities are assessed. Players are asked to perform specific techniques, from simple to complex. Their ability to perform these techniques and their comprehension of how and why is assessed.
Part Two: Players ability to combine with team mates in specific combinations including receiving and passing in addition to their individual skills (when to dribble and when to pass) are evaluated.
Part Three: Now players are playing with several teammates and their tactical understanding of how, when and why (the decision making process) are evaluated.
How many players will be on each roster?:
- At U9/U10, teams play 6v6 and the maximum roster size is 12 players. Due to playing time and to maximize developmental opportunity we recommend the roster to be 9 players.
- At U11/U12, teams play 8v8 and the maximum roster size is 14 players. At this age we recommend the roster to be 12 players
- From U13 and up 11v11 the maximum roster size is 18 players. We recommend a roster of 16 players.
When/Where/How will the teams be named?
On the fields after your child’s third tryout session. (most likely Saturday June 5th for U-9 through U-13; Sunday June 6th for U-15-19.
Who are the coaches/trainers?
Your team will be coached and/or trained (sometimes both) by a qualified, FYSA and/or United States Soccer Federation Licensed coach. Many coaches from last year will return this year, plus we have added many, qualified additional, licensed coaches to our current and new teams.
When/Where will the teams practice?
Senior Teams will begin practices in mid- June, twice a week, working on conditioning and specific “soccer fitness”. Other sessions will be optional during this month.
In August, Junior teams will be practicing twice a week. This calendar will be set after tryouts when the number of teams are known. Due to the growing nature of the club, Kahli fields (on 54) may have to be used for some team training as well as Wesley Chapel District Park on Boyette Road.
What kind of travel should we expect during the season?
Seniors (U-15 and above) start practicing typically in July and have their season in August-October, playing 10 regular season games, five of which are at home at WCDP.
For the Juniors (U-14 and below), from November to February, seven of the regular season games will be at the Wesley Chapel District Park. The remaining seven games will be local travel throughout the greater Tampa Bay area. There will be a break for Christmas/New Years of approximately 2-3 weeks. For all teams, scrimmages and tournaments will be decided on a team by team basis during the pre- and post season and may require additional travel. Many of the tournaments and all of the scrimmages are also in the local area. All teams U-11 and above will attend the Region C or State Cup at the end of the season in February.
Playing time?
Competitive soccer is not recreational soccer and as such playing time will vary based on circumstances such as practice attendance, player’s attitude, game strategy and team needs.
What is the cost?
The Club registration fee is $300 (U9/10), $375 (U11-14), $350 (U15 and up) due by June 9th, 2010 (boys) and June 10th (girls). This is VERY competitive for our area. Training /coaching fees, tournament fees and travel costs will be determined on a per team basis. Training fees include: two practices per week beginning in July (Senior teams) or August (Junior teams); including professional training for you child’s team by our trainers twice/week. Two each of: Game Jerseys and socks, one pair of game shorts, player’s Insurance and FYSA dues, referee game fees and the playing of 14 regular season games in the Greater Tampa area against comparable teams from other clubs.
OK, my son/daughter has been chosen for a team. Now what?
If a player and our club are mutually agreed upon by both parties, at the end of the last tryout session, written paper work will be given to the parent of that child to be acted on. There will then be a Mandatory parent meeting, June 9th for boys, June 10th for girls, somewhere between 6:00 and 9:00 pm. at the Meadow Pointe III clubhouse. Address: 1500 Meadow Pointe Blvd, Wesley Chapel, FL 33543 (813) 383-6676
Thanks again for taking the time to have your child or children attend our tryout sessions!!
Sincerely,
